Akbük Wins: Final Court Ruling Bans Stone Quarry Forever

A historic legal victory for Akbük! The Council of State has definitively rejected plans for a stone quarry, protecting Akbük’s nature and air quality forever.

In a historic win for local residents and environmentalists, the Turkish Council of State has issued a final ruling to block the construction of a stone quarry in the heart of Akbük’s pristine nature, ensuring our ‘lungs’ remain green for generations to come.

As someone who has called this beautiful corner of the Aegean home for twenty years, I have seen many changes, but today’s news is perhaps one of the most significant for our community’s future. The Akbük Nature and Life Association has officially announced that the long-standing legal battle against a proposed stone quarry has concluded with a definitive victory for the people.

The Final Verdict from the Council of State

The legal saga began when DYM Yapı Ltd. Şti. applied to open a stone quarry in our region, a move that threatened the ecological balance and the tranquil atmosphere we all cherish. After losing the initial case in the local administrative court, the company appealed to the Danıştay (Council of State), the highest administrative court in Turkey. However, the news we received today confirms that the Council of State has rejected the company’s appeal—this time with a finality that leaves no room for further dispute.

A Collective Effort for Our Environment

This victory was not achieved in isolation. The Akbük Nature and Life Association, alongside the Latmos Platform, has been working tirelessly to protect the habitats surrounding the villages of Çavdar and Karakaya. For those of us living in Akbük, this isn’t just a legal win; it’s about preserving our clean air, our olive groves, and the unique landscape that makes our town a sanctuary for expats and locals alike.

Staying Vigilant for the Future

While we celebrate this momentous occasion, the Association reminds us that the struggle to protect nature is ongoing. Our strength lies in our unity. The board of the Akbük Nature and Life Association expressed their gratitude to every resident who provided moral support and stood firm against the commercial exploitation of our land. As long as we stand together, we can ensure that Akbük continues to breathe and flourish.

For the international community here, this ruling provides a sense of security that the natural beauty we moved here for will be protected against industrial encroachment. It is a proud day to be an ‘Akbüklü’.
