Recently, our community platforms at akbukdeyasam.com received concerning reports and images detailing illegal waste dumping behind the Akbük Cemevi, highlighting a persistent issue that not only mars our scenery but also poses a serious fire risk, especially as temperatures soar.

The images, submitted by a vigilant neighbour, depict a disturbing scene from July 22, 2026, at approximately 06:30 AM, on the dirt road behind the Akbük Cemevi. Piles of unidentified waste, including materials highly susceptible to ignition in hot weather, were discovered. This isn’t just an eyesore; it’s a ticking environmental time bomb, casting a shadow over the natural beauty we all cherish here in Akbük.

The Cost of Convenience: Why Illegal Dumping Persists

For years, the Didim Municipality has implemented clear policies regarding waste collection. Specifically, Didim Municipal Council Resolution No. 62, passed on February 4, 2026, outlines the fee schedule for the collection of various types of waste for the year 2026. This includes garden debris, construction rubble, old furniture, and general household items that cannot be disposed of in regular bins. This tariff has been widely publicised across multiple platforms, including our own, reminding residents of their responsibilities.

Despite these clear guidelines and repeated announcements, we continue to see instances where individuals choose to bypass the official channels, opting instead to illegally dump waste in our natural surroundings. This not only pollutes our environment but also undermines the efforts of the municipality and the many law-abiding residents who responsibly manage their waste.

A Community’s Plea: Seeking Solutions for a Cleaner Akbük

It’s deeply frustrating for our community to witness this disregard for our shared environment. The materials being dumped, particularly those that are highly flammable, present a significant danger, especially during the long, hot Akbük summers. We understand that the municipality provides a service for paid waste collection – we see it happening, and we receive positive feedback from neighbours who utilise this service diligently.

However, the persistent problem of unidentified individuals dumping waste to avoid payment remains a significant concern. We, the residents of Akbük, alongside the municipality, are actively seeking a more robust solution to this issue. We urge the Didim Municipality to address these deliberate acts of environmental pollution and to find effective ways to enforce the existing regulations, ensuring that those who intentionally disregard the council’s decisions are held accountable.
